I hope all is well. Well the World Cup is over, many many people from around the Globe, some of them visiting the USA for the World Cup have finally gotten a chance to see how great this place is and that positive feeling is reverberating around the globe. In the world of numismatics, once upon a time, the collectors around the globe were known to clean their coins, in some cases quite harshly and so despite their countries being so much older than ours, they are just learning from us what makes real value in rare coins, how important originality is and the coin collecting hobby is growing by leaps and bounds globally, as people grow more confident with buying coins and I am referring to the Europeans and Asians, encapsulated by NGC and PCGS, the market for rarities is seeing an influx of new collectors, some investors that we've never seen before. I personally have clients in China, Japan, Taiwan, ALL of whom own 1907 High Relief's for example as a starter coin. Think about what that will ultimately mean for named collections in the years ahead. Will we see a complete set of double eagles be sold that was built by a collector in Xi'an China? Time will tell but I would bet yes on that. So no matter what else is going on in life, numismatics is still here and judging by the looks of the growth, will be ever larger for many years to come.
This weeks hand picked offerings begin with a higher grade 1843-O Large Letters half eagle in NGC-58 that is considerably nicer than what is usually seen in grades AU-55 thru MS-61, followed by a very rare and desirable 1874-CC Half Eagle in very choice about uncirculated condition which is followed by a blazing gem mint state 66 half eagle of 1896 that is superior in strike, luster and eye appeal. This week I chose some double eagles to offer starting with the first collectible date in the entire liberty series in this case a crusty original 1850 in choice AU followed by an 1857-P that is available at small premium over spot gold, next up a choice 1884-CC double eagle with excellent eye appeal followed by a pair of Saints from California, 1913-S St Gaudens which is scarce in MS-63 and lastly but not leastly ( new word ) a 1926-S in near gem MS-64 and quite the gold blast at that.
