MAY 27TH, 2026 - BLOCKBUSTER SILVER-GOLD RARITIES AND ERRORS
Hello All,
I hope all is well. It's getting warmer all the time in the rare coin market while the gold market has it's ups and downs. Remember when gold was $1200/oz? Now consider what the cost of slightly better double eagles was when gold was $1200 bucks an ounce. Crazy low premiums now and we are seeing that when gold retracts, the double eagles do not! Rarities are breaking records and they are only waking up. So many collectors have started their sets by purchasing the highest grade most common examples only to find themselves really stuck when it comes to obtaining the key and semi key dates within the series. This is another reason why my motto has been for decades, get the hardest to find first. Leave the commons for last. Take a look at the early half eagle registry (1795-1807). See the Tudo collection which I think is listed as number 3 while scarsdale is listed above it? But scarsdale doesn't have the 1796 or 1797, the two rarest coins in that set. The tudo set only has to buy a common date to propel it to 2nd place. Motto is "go after the keys and semi keys, the tougher dates first", leave the commons for last if you need them at all.
This weeks hand picked offerings begin with an Intense 1913-S Barber quarter in PCGS MS-66 that will knock your socks off. with shimmering luster that actually has that cartwheel effect we like so much which is mostly seen on gem morgan dollars. This Barber quarter has it! Next up is the King of Indian quarter eagles, the 1911-D Indian in PCGS-MS-65 that is premium quality and highly desirable. Next up is an exceptional early gold half eagle overdate of 1814/3 in Choice Uncirculated MS-62 that is rare and beautiful, Super rare 1874-CC half eagle gold in about uncirculated 53 by NGC that looks au-55, followed by a popular 1866-S Motto Liberty Double Eagle at what would have been considered a ridiculously low premium over gold spot just a year or 2 ago, followed by a premium quality 1884-CC in AU-58 at an even smaller premium! The next pair of errors are special with the first, a 1857 Gold Dollar Mint error and a true American Design Buffalo Nickel Error of 1913 "Red Book" variety and highly sought after error.
